Getting to York is easy from anywhere in the world. We have great rail links, easy access to major road networks and short travel time to international airports.
BARS 2017 will take place at The King’s Manor, University of York, and nearby venues. King’s Manor is in the centre of York and a 15 minute walk from York train station (click here for a map).
Train: York is well served by rail links, with frequent direct services running from London, Leeds, Manchester Airport, Birmingham and Glasgow. Please see the National Rail website for timetables and ticket reservations.
Car: If you plan to drive to York, it is generally advisable to follow signs for Sheffield or Leeds. From London this will mean following the M1 motorway, and Manchester or Liverpool the M62 motorway. Once in or near Leeds, follow signs for either the A64 or York. York is a small city and parking can be limited, especially at weekends. Please check with your accommodation about parking availability.
Air: It is not advisable to take a taxi directly from the airport as you will be charged a very high fare. Instead, follow the instructions here for travelling from the main UK airport terminals.
We have a limited number of single study bedrooms at York St John University’s halls of residence on Lord Mayors Walk, which is 5-10 minutes’ walk from the conference venue and is likely to be the cheapest option in the city centre.
Rooms will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and can be booked during registration for the conference (currently invitation-only).
Please note that most of the rooms available have shared bathroom and toilet facilities.
Hotel rooms and self catering
We have secured a special allocation of accommodation at a negotiated rate with VisitYork4Meetings. To view the options and make a booking, please use the following link: https://aws.passkey.com/go/BARS2017
Budget accommodation is also available at the main University of York campus in Heslington, which is a 40 minute walk from the conference venue. There is a regular, 15-minute bus service into the city centre. Please contact us if you wish to share taxis. To book a room, please visit York Conferences.
Finding your own accommodation
In addition to the options above, you can search for accommodation on the main Visit York site. York has many hotels, B&Bs and self-catering options but these tend to be fully booked at weekends, so advanced reservations are advisable.
